The E80T Grind-by-Sync is the time-based espresso grinder that takes Mahlkönig's E80S into the Sync System. It is built for bars that never slow down: 80mm burrs, up to 10 double espressos a minute and up to 90kg of coffee a day. The workflow stays the familiar one: slide in the portafilter, grinding starts on its own and the dose is there in seconds. What changes is what happens when the grind needs correcting.
Temperature, humidity and bean freshness shift throughout the day, and on a traditional time-based grinder every grind adjustment moves the dose as well. The E80T deals with exactly that: when you adjust the grind size, a grind time correction algorithm recalibrates the grinding time to keep the output weight consistent. Fewer recipes to redo, less coffee wasted while dialing in, consistent doses from one shift to the next, rush hour included.
That precision comes from Mahlkönig's patented Disc Distance Detection (DDD), which reads the real distance between the burrs, now paired with an electric motor that adjusts it to the micron, repeatably. Zero calibration takes a single button press and a few seconds.
Connected to a compatible espresso machine or a Sync enabled device, the E80T receives the data from every extraction and adjusts the grind in real time to hit the target shot parameters of the recipe. The Mahlkönig Sync App, for desktop and mobile, handles device setup and lets you monitor operating data across one or several locations. Without Sync it is still a complete time-based grinder you can run on its own.
What we love
We think that on a high volume bar automatic grind time correction is worth more than any other feature: the dose stays right even when the grind moves, and new staff get up to speed faster because there are fewer variables to chase. We also like the working details: Portafilter Detection that starts the grind, the adjustable illuminated spout that centers the coffee in the basket, active cooling that keeps grinding temperatures low even through long runs of shots, and a quiet 70 dBA while grinding.
